The National Health Insurance Fund under the Ministry of Health (NHIF) was visited by the representatives of the Reform Working Group of the International association of mutual benefit societies (Association Internationale de la Mutualité (AIM)). The NHIF is the member of this association.
The representatives of the Reform Working Group of the International association of mutual benefit societies from Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, France and Greece were received by Gintaras Kacevičius, the Director of the NHIF, Neringa Norkūnaitė – Sasnauskienė, the Deputy Director of the NHIF, Viačeslavas Zaksas, the Deputy Director of the NHIF, by the representatives of the Division of International Affairs and other divisions.
The guests were introduced by the specialists of the NHIF with the principles of the Compulsory Health Insurance (CHI) system operating in Lithuania, the delegation was made familiar with the categories of insured individuals, the process of collecting health insurance contributions. Trends in health system financing, various aspects of payment for health services and financial instruments intended to encourage service providers to provide a bigger number of efficient services were discussed. Furthermore, the primary outpatient personal healthcare system and its payment mechanism, preventive programs, the principles for listing medicines on the list of reimbursable medicines, and measures taken to reduce reimbursements paid by the patients for the medicines, and other innovations in reimbursement of medicines were presented.
At the end of the visit, the representatives of the delegation emphasized that the NHIF effectively uses the means of the budget of the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund.
The guests also visited one of the healthcare facilities in Vilnius where they observed how the patients covered by the CHI are provided with integrated services: primary and secondary personal healthcare, day inpatient, rehabilitation services, etc.
Meetings of the various working groups of the aforementioned association are held on a regular basis. During the visits, specialists in CHI share experience and collect examples of good practice that could also be adapted in their countries. The NHIF invites you:
