Information in relation to the provision of necessary healthcare services
regarding testing and treatment of COVID-19 infection

Pursuant to the Law on the Prevention and Control of Human Communicable Diseases of the Republic of Lithuania, the Government announced a quarantine and approved the list of essential public healthcare measures designated for the prevention and control of COVID-19 infection. In order to control the spread of coronavirus infection the Minister of Health acting as State-level Emergency State Operations Manager took the decision obliging healthcare institutions to provide healthcare services in relation to testing and treatment of COVID-19 infection to foreigners and other uninsured by the compulsory health insurance people staying in Lithuania. The costs of these services are covered from the budget of the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund regardless of the person is covered by the compulsory health insurance or not. This payment mechanism will be valid until the end of the quarantine period.

It is important to note that persons insured in one of the European Union and European Economic Area countries can receive necessary healthcare services including services for the examination and treatment of COVID-19 infection on the basis of their European Health Insurance Card free of charge. The costs of these services are covered by the Territorial Health Insurance Funds from the budget of the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund.
